Why donate to Developmental Connections?

There are so many afflictions affecting the world's children, so why are we focusing our time and resources on developmental delays? In non-philanthropic terms, Developmental Connections is a good “investment.” More specifically, children diagnosed with developmental delays can be helped, but so often these children are not receiving the critical, time-sensitive interventions that make a difference – for the child, for their family, for society as a whole.

Here are some of the compelling trends regarding developmental delays:

  • Large numbers of American children are experiencing developmental delays. “An estimated 12 percent to 16 percent of U.S. children have developmental delays or behavioral problems” according to Science Daily (“Pediatricians May Miss Developmental Delays, But Parents Can Help," Science Daily, September 12, 2007)
  • Intensive, early intervention works.   ”Research has shown that early intervention improves a child's long-term academic and behavioral outcomes.” (“Pediatricians May Miss Developmental Delays, But Parents Can Help”, Science Daily, September 12, 2007)
  • Most families don’t have the resources to do what is required.  While some federally mandated services exist, they are a small fraction of what a child needs to potentially catch up to their peers and live a productive, independent life.  The time and money required is typically well beyond the means of most families.

We are so excited to come together and dedicate our time and resources to support these children and we hope you will do the same.
